Retirees in low and medium economic nations like Nigeria were exposed to different health challenges which pose burden for their family members.
This study examined the level of healthcare burden and family support among the retired civil servants in Oyo State. The survey research design was used for the study. A sample size of 170 respondents was drawn using purposive sampling procedure. Data were generated through a selfstructured questionnaire. The reliability was established through Cronbach Alpha statistic to determine the correlation coefficient index. Data were analysed via descriptive statistics of frequencies, percentages, and standard deviation and Pearson product moment correlation. The finding show that there was a significant connection between healthcare burden and financing cost faced by retired civil servants in Oyo State (r =.0.37, p (. 000) <. 05). The results revealed that there was a significant relationship between healthcare burden and social support provided by the family of the retired civil servants (r =.21, p (.036) <. 05). The result also revealed that there was a significant relationship between healthcare burdens and coping strategies of post retired life of the civil servants (r =.33, p (. 001)<. 05). The result indicate that there was a negative relationship between type of support and health burden of the retired civil servants (r = -. 12, p (. 233)>. 05). It was therefore recommended, among others that government needs to do more for the pensioners as some members of their families are facing a lot of financial issues.
